Many religious denominations have traditionally been disdainful, distrusting, and even hostile to science. This is true in the present day where there are many Christians, even those with influence, who don’t believe in evolution despite the overwhelming evidence and advocate intelligent design. Many are also opposed to the conclusions made on the basis of scientific research in areas such as the environment and human psychology. Is religion necessarily opposed to science? If not, then what is needed to allow science and religion to coexist?
